【SMM Steel】South Africa’s government will publish preliminary findings from its steel tariff review next week, as part of efforts to protect the domestic industry from increasing imports. The review, initiated in March by the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC), covers over 600 tariff codes.
The local steel sector has faced challenges from rising imports—primarily from China—alongside weak demand, energy shortages, and logistics constraints. The review will evaluate the effectiveness of existing duties, potential new import controls, and the need for safeguard measures.
