[SMM New Energy News Flash] The Norwegian Environment Agency has approved Autoretur Battery Recycling (ABR), a new company established by the Norwegian Automobile Importers’ Association, to manage the return and recycling of high-energy electric vehicle batteries. ABR will provide a comprehensive system for safe collection, handling, and recycling, supporting Norway’s circular economy goals. With batteries containing valuable metals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt, proper recycling ensures environmental protection and reuse in new batteries. The automotive industry in Norway is expected to face a sharp increase in used EV batteries, from 50,000 annually within five years to over 100,000 by 2035. ABR will replace the current system from November 1, leveraging Autoretur’s nationwide collection network to ensure efficient logistics, compliance with regulations, and reduced emissions. The new centralized solution provides car importers with a cost-effective and sustainable way to fulfill producer responsibility requirements.
