[Norsk Hydro to Cut 750 White-Collar Jobs Amid Global Uncertainty]
Norsk Hydro announced it will reduce 750 white-collar positions as part of a cost-cutting plan aimed at saving NOK 1 billion (~$98 million) annually. The cuts will affect roles in support functions, engineering, IT, supply chain, and commercial departments, while blue-collar workers remain unaffected.
The move follows a hiring freeze introduced in June, prompted by rising geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, and economic uncertainty. Capital spending for the year has also been reduced by 10% from initial plans. CEO Eivind Kallevik stated the decision aims to enhance Hydro’s resilience and competitiveness in an increasingly volatile global environment.
