Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 12, BYD Commercial Vehicle and JD AUTO signed a strategic cooperation agreement at BYD's headquarters in Pingshan district, Shenzhen, according to a post on the former's WeChat account. The move marks a new phase in the two companies' push to accelerate the electrification of China's commercial vehicle sector.

BYD Commercial Vehicle general manager Tian Chunlong noted that the transition to commercial vehicle electrification has entered a rapid growth phase, with market penetration of new energy commercial vehicles rising from single- to double-digit percentages. As the only commercial vehicle maker in China with in-house mastery of these core technologies for new energy vehicles (NEVs)—battery, electric motor, electric control unit, and chip , BYD has leveraged its R&D strength and vertically integrated supply chain to expand its product range in line with market needs. Mr. Tian said the partnership would tap into JD.com's government and enterprise service platform to open up new application scenarios for BYD's new energy commercial vehicles.

JD.com's senior vice president Wang Peinuan highlighted that JD AUTO has grown into a significant B2B platform with strong early-mover advantages and notable business growth. The company plans to prioritize BYD Commercial Vehicle promotion in sectors such as energy and tobacco, while also drawing on JD.com's capabilities in insurance and supply chain management to support the entire commercial vehicle lifecycle.

The two sides also discussed potential cooperation on product onboarding, platform-based promotion, and employee purchasing programs, signaling a broad scope for collaboration beyond vehicle sales alone.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
