South African mining production rose 2.4% YoY in June, with platinum group metals, coal, and chromite ore contributing the most.

According to Mining Weekly, South Africa's mining production increased by 2.4% YoY in June, with platinum group metals (PGMs), coal, and ferrochrome ore contributing the most.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of South Africa showed that in June, the country's PGM production increased by 3%, contributing 1 percentage point. Coal production increased by 3.7%, contributing 0.8 percentage points. Ferrochrome ore production increased by 9%, contributing 0.5 percentage points.

Additionally, after seasonal adjustment, mining production increased by 0.2% MoM in June. It had increased by 3.9% in May and was basically flat in April.

After seasonal adjustment, mining production increased by 3.9% QoQ in Q2.

The largest contributors were PGMs (up 9%, contributing 2.5 percentage points), gold (up 4.7%, contributing 0.6 percentage points), and ferrochrome ore (up 8.5%, contributing 0.5 percentage points).

In June, South Africa's mineral product sales decreased by 14.4% YoY at current prices.

The largest negative impacts were from gold (down 53.7%, dragging down by 13.6 percentage points), manganese ore (down 33.7%, dragging down by 2.7 percentage points), and coal (down 5.5%, dragging down by 1.2 percentage points).

The largest contributor was PGMs (up 23.5%, contributing 4.4 percentage points).

After seasonal adjustment, mineral product sales at current prices decreased by 6.6% MoM in June, after increasing by 4.7% in May and 7.1% in April.

After seasonal adjustment, mineral product sales at current prices increased by 6.6% QoQ in Q2.
