Jiangxi University of Science and Technology's "Lithium Green Vision" Research Team: Tackling Lithium Battery Recycling Challenges Through "Treating Waste with Waste

[SMM Lithium Battery Recycling News Flash] The "Lithium Dream Green Journey" Research Team of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology: "Treating Waste with Waste" to Overcome the Challenges of Lithium Battery Recycling. The “Li Xiang Green Action” research team from Jiangxi University of Science and Technology has developed a short-process, eco-friendly recycling technology for retired lithium batteries, tackling the challenge of efficient lithium resource recovery. Already adopted by multiple enterprises, the technology has processed 17,000 tons of used batteries, generating over 170 million yuan in new output value. Introducing the concept of “waste-to-treat-waste,” the team innovated flue gas resource utilization, layered roasting, and co-smelting methods, significantly boosting the recovery rates of lithium and lead while reducing costs and secondary pollution. Lithium recovery exceeds 96%, costs are cut by about 20%, and sulfur fixation reaches 99%. Over the past two years, these innovations have created more than 200 million yuan in added value for partner companies and earned several national and international patents, injecting new momentum into Jiangxi’s lithium battery recycling industry.
