According to data from the Aluminum Association, the estimated aluminum demand in the United States and Canada for the first quarter of 2025 is expected to reach 6.53 billion pounds (domestic producer shipments + imports), a decrease of 4.4% compared to 6.83 billion pounds during the same period last year. Due to companies increasing their import volumes ahead of the tariffs (which began imposing a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum products imported into the U.S. starting March 12), North American imports of aluminum and aluminum products grew by 40.9% quarter-on-quarter.
