【SMM New Energy News Flash】As global demand for battery minerals rises amid the push for decarbonisation, Queensland is positioning itself as a major global hub for battery production. With rich reserves of lithium, vanadium, and graphite, alongside well-established mining infrastructure, the state is rapidly developing its processing and manufacturing capabilities. Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) are gaining traction for grid-scale storage due to safety, longevity, and recyclability advantages over lithium. Meanwhile, Queensland’s natural volcanic graphite offers superior performance with lower processing costs, and projects like Graphinex's Esmeralda deposit could challenge China’s dominance. The Queensland Government actively supports this growth through critical minerals zones, demonstration plants, and international partnerships. With transparent and ethical supply chains, local battery manufacturing, and government backing, Queensland is set to become a key player in the global battery supply chain, offering stable, sustainable solutions for the energy transition.
