Portuguese energy group Galp Energia SGPS SA has commenced construction of 74 MW/147 MWh battery storage systems across Spain and Portugal, while activating two solar farms in Spain. The battery installations will connect to existing solar facilities at Alcoutim, Portugal (60.5 MW/120.4 MWh across four units) and Manzanares, Spain (13.4 MW/26.8 MWh), raising Galp's total operational storage capacity to 79 MW/158 MWh.
China's Sungrow is supplying PowerTitan 2.0 battery systems featuring grid-forming inverter technology. These units will store excess solar generation during daylight hours for dispatch during evening peak periods. The Portuguese installations receive partial funding through the EU's REPowerEU initiative.
Galp's grid-certified control center will manage real-time system operations and enable participation in ancillary service markets.
