Camborne School of Mines to Resume Undergraduate Mining Engineering Enrollment in September

Published: Jul 31, 2025 20:35
The Camborne School of Mines (CSM) in Cornwall, UK, will resume undergraduate enrollment in mining engineering this September. Pat Foster, the head of this college at the University of Exeter, believes that this is a "return" after the undergraduate enrollment plan was canceled in 2020. He told MJ reporters visiting the school, "It's rare for universities to resume courses after canceling them." However, the number of undergraduate students in mining engineering is declining globally, not just in the UK.

Energy Fuels Begins $104M Expansion for Rare Earth Oxide Production at Utah Mill
Energy Fuels Inc. has commenced a $104 million expansion of its White Mesa mill in Utah, aimed at establishing commercial-scale production of dysprosium, terbium, and other rare earth oxides. These new circuits represent another step in the company's strategy to build a Western "mine-to-magnet" supply chain from mineral sand deposits to rare earth processing, metals, alloys, and permanent magnets.

Rare earth prices show mixed performance; downstream wait-and-see sentiment is strong [SMM Rare Earth Daily Review]
[SMM Rare Earth Daily Review: Rare earth prices show mixed performance, with strong wait-and-see sentiment downstream] Overall, after the previous rapid rise, the rare earth market has entered a phase of differentiated adjustment. Dysprosium and terbium pulled back from highs, holmium and erbium continued to make up gains, while Pr-Nd consolidated. Downstream actual purchasing pace remained cautious overall, with transactions in a stalemate. In the short term, Pr-Nd products are expected to continue moving sideways under the influence of stagnant market trading. Medium-heavy rare earth products are showing divergent trends: holmium and erbium are likely to hold up well supported by tight supply, while dysprosium and terbium consolidate at highs.
