Lyten, a lithium-sulfur battery developer in California, recently secured $200 million in funding from existing investors to acquire the assets of the bankrupt Northvolt AB, including the assembly plant in Gdańsk, Poland, and related intellectual property rights for energy storage systems. The plant, valued at $200 million, will resume production in Q4 this year. Initially, it will continue to produce Northvolt's original nickel-based batteries, and in the future, it will transition to Lyten's proprietary lithium-sulfur battery production line. Keith Norman, Lyten's Chief Marketing Officer, stated that the company is shifting from being a single US EV battery supplier to the European energy storage and military drone markets, aiming to complete its value chain by acquiring undervalued assets. Lyten claims that its lithium-sulfur battery technology can compete with China-dominated LFP batteries in terms of cost and energy density, and does not rely on raw materials controlled by China.
