Recently, Mohamed Shimi, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises of Egypt, led a team to head to the anode carbon block factory in Ain Sokhna, Suez Governorate, to conduct an on-site survey of the progress of its production resumption project, emphasizing that the factory would become a key supporting force in Egypt's aluminum industry chain. The project, undertaken by Egypt Anode Company, which is affiliated with the National Metal Industries Holding Company, has signed a five-year strategic cooperation agreement with BP, with a total investment of US$20 million. Anode carbon blocks are a crucial raw material for aluminum electrolysis production. Since the factory's shutdown more than two years ago, its restart has been regarded as a key step in promoting the localization of Egypt's heavy industry, reducing import dependence, and enhancing export earnings capacity. The project is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 250,000 mt after completing technological upgrades and cooling system commissioning, and is anticipated to bring significant economic returns to the country.
