On July 24, 2025, as the core carrier of the 100-billion-yuan green steel industry base jointly promoted by Guangdong Province and Yunfu City, the Southern Donghai Steel Project of Guangdong Metal Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Industrial Park, with a total investment of 18 billion yuan, commenced trial production at its 1650 hot rolling mill.

It is understood that the Southern Donghai High-Quality Steel Project is a key provincial and municipal project in 2025. Approved by the capacity announcement of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), it adopts a short-process technology, utilizing the world's advanced electric arc furnace steelmaking equipment, and establishing a downstream deep-processing industry chain (cold-rolled strip steel). It is a green steel industry project that recycles steel scrap, aiming to build a modern high-end intelligent manufacturing steel base with sophisticated equipment, advanced technology, first-class management, and environmental protection. The project will subsequently establish a downstream deep-processing industry chain, with products covering high-quality carbon structural steel, cold-rolled steel for stamping, steel for new energy vehicles, high-performance corrosion-resistant steel, and high-strength steel.
