On Monday local time, July 28, Chile’s Finance Minister Mario Marcel spoke about the ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States. He said there is hope for an exemption from the 50% tariff on copper. After the news broke, the overnight COMEX front‐month contract plunged over 6% intraday, and the LME 3-month copper–COMEX front‐month spread narrowed from $3,000 per ton to $2,600 per ton.
