Chile says it hopes to be exempted from copper tariffs, copper prices plummet

On Monday, July 28 (local time), Chile's Finance Minister Mario Marcel spoke about the ongoing tariff negotiations with the US. He believed that there was hope for an exemption from the 50% tariff on copper. Following the news, the COMEX most-traded contract fell more than 6% overnight, and the price spread between LME 3M copper and the COMEX most-traded contract dropped from $3,000/mt to $2,600/mt.
