Shanghai (Gasgoo)- NIO Inc.'s third brand, FIREFLY, has reached a key production milestone just three months after its first model's market launch. On July 26, the company confirmed that 10,000 units of its compact BEV (battery electric vehicle) model—also named firefly—have been delivered, marking a significant step forward for the automaker's push into the affordable EV segment.
Launched at the end of 2024, FIREFLY is positioned as a premium small EV brand with a focus on intelligent features and expressive design. Its debut model, the firefly, currently includes two styling variants—the Free and Glow editions—priced at 119,800 yuan and 125,800 yuan, respectively. Deliveries began on April 29, shortly after the car's official market introduction.
In June, the firefly further expanded its appeal with the introduction of NIO's BaaS (Battery as a Service) offering. The subscription model allows buyers to separate the battery cost from the vehicle price, reducing the upfront purchase cost by 40,000 yuan. With BaaS, the Free and Glow editions now start from 79,800 yuan and 85,800 yuan, respectively, with a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan. This approach not only lowers the entry barrier for new buyers but also helps spread out long-term ownership costs—a strategy NIO continues to refine across its brands.
The firefly model features a design language inspired by biomimicry, combining function with distinctive aesthetics. Its signature triple-ring LED headlight cluster delivers a standout visual presence, especially at night. The side profile is accentuated by a floating two-tone paint finish and an integrated C-pillar and roof design, while bespoke alloy wheels complete its upscale appearance. Measuring 4,003mm in length with a 2,615mm wheelbase, the car strikes a balance between urban agility and interior space.
Inside, the firefly emphasizes user-centric design. A raised center armrest in the front row allows for flexible cabin access, while a set of under-console drawers provides practical storage. A 50W wireless fast-charging tray features anti-slip grooves, and a magnetic mounting system supports customizable accessories like tissue holders, cup holders, and sunglass trays.
Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a 42.1kWh long-life battery offering a CLTC-rated range of 420 kilometers. With a drag coefficient of just 0.287Cd and NIO's in-house developed six-in-one electric drive unit achieving up to 90% efficiency, the firefly delivers a highly competitive energy consumption of just 10.9kWh per 100 kilometers.
