Spanish renewable energy company Zelestra announced a virtual power purchase agreement (vPPA) with Graphic Packaging International for a 19-MWdc solar farm in León, northern Spain. The project, named Villamanán, will begin construction immediately and is scheduled for commercial operation in Q1 2026. Their initial August 2024 vPPA covered the 83-MWdc José Cabrera and Socovos II solar plants, both expected to commence operations by end-2025.
Zelestra estimates the Villamanán facility will produce approximately 28,700 MWh of electricity annually, potentially reducing CO₂ emissions by about 4,900 tonnes per year. Upon commissioning, Zelestra will redistribute Guarantees of Origin across all three projects.
Graphic Packaging stated the vPPAs support its Scope 1 and 2 decarbonization objectives and reduce its packaging solutions' carbon footprint.
