SMM July 25 News:
Against the backdrop of drastic changes in the zinc supply-demand pattern and rapid expansion of smelting capacity, zinc price volatility risks have intensified. As one of the primary trading hubs for spot zinc, Shanghai attracts significant market attention. To help industry participants more accurately gauge the pulse of the zinc market and stay informed about real-time trading dynamics, SMM's zinc research team has launched the "Shanghai Zinc Ingot Procurement and Sales Sentiment Index," which is updated daily to provide quantifiable, traceable, and early-warning data references for industry chain clients.
The Shanghai Zinc Ingot Procurement and Sales Sentiment Index consists of two components: the Buying Sentiment Index and the Sales Sentiment Index. It quantifies daily market trading sentiment through a scoring system (1–5):
5 Panic buying, spot cargo sold out instantly
4 Active inquiries, large-scale restocking across all segments
3 Active inquiries, rigid demand + limited restocking
2 Few inquiries, sporadic rigid demand
1 No interest
SMM's zinc analyst team conducts daily targeted discussions with traders, smelters, and downstream enterprises, scoring their selling/purchasing intentions on a 1–5 scale. The sentiment index is weighted by enterprise capacity/procurement volume to ensure it represents mainstream industry trends.
1. Upstream enterprises: Monitor downstream purchasing sentiment to adjust sales strategies in real time and accelerate capital turnover.
2. Downstream enterprises: Adjust procurement pace based on upstream sales sentiment to reduce procurement costs.
3. Financial institutions: Use the quantifiable sentiment index to assess market transactions, explore correlations between sentiment and futures prices, and support investment strategy formulation.
To ensure timeliness and continuity, SMM updates the Shanghai Zinc Ingot Procurement and Sales Sentiment Index every trading day.
