Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese smart electric vehicle (EV) maker XPENG has taken a major step in its international expansion by launching local vehicle production in Indonesia, marking the company's first overseas manufacturing milestone. The announcement was made during its debut appearance at the GIIAS 2025, Indonesia's largest automotive trade show.

At the event, XPENG delivered the first locally assembled unit of its flagship X9 MPV to an Indonesian customer, officially initiating its global strategy for localized production. This move positions Indonesia not only as a regional hub for XPENG's Southeast Asian ambitions but also as the launchpad for its broader international manufacturing roadmap.

With a population of over 270 million and a rapidly growing appetite for smart, sustainable vehicles, Indonesia has emerged as Southeast Asia's largest EV market. The country's young demographic and government-backed push for electrification make it a strategic choice for XPENG to introduce its most advanced products and technology.

Localized production is expected to significantly improve delivery efficiency and responsiveness to local market demands. XPENG's Indonesian strategy spans across vehicle assembly, workforce development, and product adaptation to local needs. The company aims to offer intelligent mobility solutions that are tailored for the country's unique transportation landscape.

XPENG is also accelerating the rollout of its retail and service network in key Indonesian cities. Initial expansion will focus on Jakarta, Bali, and Java Island, with plans to establish experience centers covering 70% of major city centers and 85% of high-density areas by the end of the year.

The XPENG X9, XPENG's first vehicle to be locally produced and delivered overseas, brings flexible design and intelligent features suited to Indonesian consumers. With its adjustable layout, the model can seamlessly switch between a spacious four-seat SUV and a versatile seven-seat MPV. The third-row seats fold flat at the touch of a button, catering especially well to large families—a core demographic in Indonesia's mobility market.

XPENG began its global expansion in 2020 and has since extended its presence to 46 countries and regions. The company has delivered over 800,000 vehicles worldwide to date, as it continues to push forward with its vision of exporting Chinese EV innovation to global markets.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
