On July 16, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) initiated the ninth batch of applications for lithium battery industry norms and the supervision of announced enterprises. The 2024 edition of the new regulations sets clear indicators for three types of batteries. The new regulations specify that the energy density of ESS battery cells should be ≥155Wh/kg (system ≥110Wh/kg) with a cycle life of ≥6000 cycles (capacity retention ≥80%). For small power battery cells, the energy density should be ≥140Wh/kg (system ≥110Wh/kg) with a cycle life of ≥1000 cycles (capacity retention ≥70%). Regarding large power batteries, there are energy-type (ternary battery cell ≥230Wh/kg, lithium iron phosphate battery cell ≥165Wh/kg) and power-type (battery cell ≥1500W/kg) categories, both requiring a cycle life of ≥1500 cycles (capacity retention ≥80%). The norms cover enterprises producing battery cells, battery packs, and the four key materials, promoting high-quality development of the industry.
