Shanghai Releases Plan for High-Quality Development of Display Industry

The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization issued the "Action Plan for High-Quality Development of Shanghai's Next-Generation Display Industry (2026-2030)". It points out the need to expand the advantages of display chips. Targeting fields such as the metaverse, intelligent terminals, and automotive applications, the plan aims to enhance the level of display driver chips. Support will be provided for the entire chain of MicroLED chips, including large-size epitaxy, high-pixel density structures, and quantum dot full-colorization. The market size of small- and medium-sized flexible display drivers will be expanded, and the penetration of 4K and 8K ultra-high-definition display drivers will be accelerated. The plan also aims to improve the processing capabilities of high-end display driver wafers and continuously expand the scale of processing capacity. It promotes cooperation between chip manufacturers, panel factories, and terminals to develop technologies such as picture quality compensation and real-time zonal control. Support will be given to the R&D and industrialisation of master control chips for smart glasses, accelerating market expansion.
