[Canada's share of North American auto production drops to lowest level in over 30 years] According to BMO Capital Markets' analysis of data, Canadian auto production fell to its lowest level in two and a half years in June. With US President Trump imposing a 25% tariff on all foreign vehicles, the Canadian auto industry is in turmoil. Canadian automakers have either temporarily shut down capacity at some of their factories or announced production cut plans. BMO stated that the data showed a 3.3% decline in total North American auto assembly volumes in H1, with Canada experiencing a larger drop of 6.4%. In Q2, Canada's share of North American auto production fell to 7.6%, the lowest level in over 30 years. In June, Canadian auto assembly volumes dropped by 5.8% from the previous month, which BMO said could weigh on Canada's GDP data for June and Q2.
