Acciona Energia, a Spanish renewables firm, has commenced the construction of a 177.9-MWp solar project in southern Peru, marking its debut photovoltaic venture in the nation. The San Jose plant, situated in the Arequipa region's La Joya district, will consist of 288,000 solar modules and produce 488 GWh of clean electricity per year, adequate for supplying 325,000 individuals. The solar farm is slated to be fully operational by the end of 2026, and during its construction phase, it is anticipated to generate up to 500 direct jobs. Upon completion, the plant will be integrated into the national grid through a 9.2-kilometer, 220-kV transmission line linking to the San Jose substation.

Additionally, Acciona Energia emphasized Peru's abundant solar resources in the southern region and its wind potential along the northern coastline. The company's parent group, Acciona SA, also maintains a presence in Peru, operating as a construction contractor in the energy sector and as a concessionaire for power transmission.
