US and Indonesia Reach Agreement on Comprehensive Market Opening

Published: Jul 19, 2025 17:35
US President Trump held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo and successfully reached an important agreement. Trump stated that the agreement was a milestone as it marked Indonesia's first full market opening to the US. As part of the agreement, Indonesia has committed to purchasing US energy worth up to $15 billion and US agricultural products worth $4.5 billion, while also importing 50 Boeing aircraft. Additionally, the agreement stipulates that the US will impose a unified 19% tariff on all imported Indonesian goods, whereas Indonesia will enjoy preferential treatment with tariff exemptions and other non-tariff barriers removed when importing US goods. It is noteworthy that Trump had previously announced a 32% tariff on Indonesian goods starting from August 1, and this new agreement clearly opens a new chapter in the economic and trade relations between the two countries.
