This achievement, made possible through its partnership with exclusive distributor EVDirect, underscores BYD's rapid rise and growing brand recognition in the Australian market.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On July 12 local time, BYD marked a major milestone by delivering its 60,000th new energy vehicle (NEV) in Australia at its Waverley showroom in Melbourne, according to a press release from BYD.

This achievement, made possible through its partnership with exclusive distributor EVDirect, underscores BYD's rapid rise and growing brand recognition in the Australian market.

Reaching the 60,000-unit mark in less than three years, BYD said it has established itself as a strong player in Australia's competitive automotive landscape. The company expects to deliver over 40,000 vehicles across the country in 2025, reinforcing its upward momentum.

The delivery milestone follows a record-setting first half of 2025, capped by a standout performance in June. During that month alone, BYD delivered 8,156 vehicles in Australia—a 368% year-on-year surge—setting a new monthly sales record for the brand. The success was driven in large part by strong demand for the BYD SHARK 6, the first PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) pickup model sold in Australia.

BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu praised the achievement and emphasized the brand's close connection with Australian consumers. "Australia is a key market for BYD," he noted. "It is one of the most competitive automotive markets in the world, with highly discerning and professional consumers who value innovation, safety, and sustainability. Our success here shows that BYD products can meet—and even exceed—the expectations of mature markets. It also continues to inform and inspire our global product development and strategic planning."

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
