On July 18, BYD's sub-brand FANGCHENGBAO revealed official images of the high-spec version of its upcoming TAI 7 SUV.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On July 18, BYD's sub-brand FANGCHENGBAO revealed official images of the high-spec version of its upcoming TAI 7 SUV. Compared to the previously released mid-range variant, the new product adds a LiDAR system, a roof-mounted drone, and a redesigned set of alloy wheels.

Positioned as a mid-to-large SUV with a unibody construction, the TAI 7 is expected to hit the market in the fourth quarter of this year. It retains the brand's signature boxy silhouette, featuring dual L-shaped daytime running lights at the front and a rugged front bumper that reinforces its off-road character. The floating roof design complements the vehicle's sizable proportions.

Dimensionally, the TAI 7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. It offers a five-seat configuration and boasts approach and departure angles of 24 and 25 degrees, respectively, underscoring its off-road capability.

At the rear, the SUV sports a classic externally mounted spare tire and L-shaped taillights that echo the headlamp design. The robust rear bumper and illuminated FANGCHENGBAO badging further elevate the vehicle's visual appeal.

A key highlight of the high-spec variant is its integration of the LING YUAN drone system, which enables dynamic takeoff and landing at speeds of up to 25 km/h, omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, intelligent tracking, and one-click cinematic aerial photography.

In terms of driver assistance, the TAI 7 will be equipped with BYD's in-house DiPilot 300 LiDAR-based system. The inclusion of LiDAR significantly enhances the vehicle's environmental awareness, particularly in complex driving scenarios, enabling a more advanced and reliable driver assistance experience.

Under the hood, the TAI 7 pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor as part of a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle)-dedicated powertrain. The engine delivers up to 115 kW, while the electric motor produces 200 kW. The model uses lithium iron phosphate batteries, with the standard version offering a two-wheel-drive setup and shorter battery-powered range. A long-range, all-wheel-drive variant will also be available, featuring an upgraded battery pack that delivers up to 130 km of WLTC range—or up to 180 km under the more commonly used CLTC standard.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
