[Breakthrough in Hungary's Distribution-Side ESS: DSO Launches 15.9 MWh BESS Project] Budapest, July 18, 2025 – Hungarian distribution grid operator Opus Titasz announced the official launch of four battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a total capacity of 4.5 MW/15.88 MWh. The projects received funding of 4 billion Hungarian forints (approximately $11.6 million) from the EU Modernisation Fund, marking the first large-scale implementation of distribution-side energy storage as a "power grid integrated component" under the EU's 2019 Clean Energy Package.
