Chinese battery supplier Gotion High-Tech officially launched localized production of its 5MWh liquid-cooled energy storage system—branded as Gotion GRID—at its facility in Göttingen, Germany.

Beijing (Gasgoo)–Recently, Chinese battery supplier Gotion High-Tech(Gotion) officially launched localized production of its 5MWh liquid-cooled energy storage system—branded as Gotion GRID—at its facility in Göttingen, Germany, after receiving full compliance certification under EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 from TÜV SÜD, according to a press release Gotion issued on July 17 via its WeChat account.

The dual milestone of EU certification and German manufacturing marks a significant step forward in Gotion's strategy to deepen its presence in Europe's energy storage market and accelerate the deployment of its technologies amid the continent's energy transition, said the company.

Developed in-house by Gotion, the industrial-grade stationary energy storage system features long-lifespan battery cells capable of up to 12,000 cycles. Its modular cabin design can reduce land use by up to 35%, while a multi-layer thermal insulation and fire protection system ensures operational safety and stability.

The system integrates Gotion's proprietary battery management system, offering liquid-cooling technology that improves energy efficiency by 30% over traditional air-cooling, along with robust fire protection and multi-protocol communication interfaces. These innovations make the system well-suited to the stringent safety, environmental, and integration standards required in European markets, according to the company.

In addition to the TÜV SÜD certification, the product has already secured China's CGC certification and CSA UL certification, laying a foundation for global adoption.

To better serve its European clients and improve supply chain responsiveness, Gotion deployed its Göttingen plant in July 2021 and began operations in September 2023. The facility focuses on the production and sales of battery packs and energy storage systems. The newly certified 5MWh energy storage system is manufactured entirely at this location and has already been deployed across various use cases, including power generation, grid-level applications, and renewable energy storage.

Notably, Gotion has also formed a strategic R&D and talent partnership with the University of Göttingen, aiming to advance research in battery materials, optimize energy storage systems, and foster the cultivation of talent through joint innovation initiatives.

With a global footprint guided by its "Be local, for local" philosophy, Gotion continues to integrate into the European energy ecosystem by combining international certification, localized manufacturing, and academia-industry collaboration.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
