Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On the morning of July 16, BYD officially named and delivered its seventh roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel, BYD ZHENGZHOU, in Guangzhou, according to a post of the WeChat account of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone.

The vessel is now set to dock at Xiaomo Port in the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone to begin its maiden car-loading voyage.

Built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited ("CSSC"), the ZHENGZHOU is a sister ship to the previously launched HEFEI. It measures 199.9 meters in length and 38 meters in width, with a capacity to carry up to 7,000 vehicles. The vessel is powered by dual-fuel LNG engines and is equipped with a permanent magnet shaft generator and energy-saving technologies. Following BYD's naming convention, the ship is named after one of its major production bases—Zhengzhou.

So far, BYD has taken delivery of several self-owned car carriers, including BYD EXPLORER No. 1, BYD CHANGZHOU, BYD HEFEI, BYD SHENZHEN, BYD XI'AN, and now BYD ZHENGZHOU, with more such as BYD CHANGSHA and BYD JINAN to follow.

The company plans to establish an eight-ship fleet by 2026, which will help shorten delivery times to Europe and strengthen its global market presence.

In addition to maritime shipping, BYD is also exploring other export channels such as railway transportation and overseas localized production. In June last year, its joint venture factory in Uzbekistan rolled out the first locally assembled Song PLUS DM-i. Around the same time, over 260 BYD passenger vehicles produced at the Zhengzhou plant were shipped via a dedicated freight train from a nearby international dry port to Uzbekistan.

This multifaceted export strategy has paid off. In the first half of 2025, BYD exported 472,000 vehicles—up more than 130% year-on-year—demonstrating strong momentum in its international expansion.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
