Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On July 16, IM Motor, the premium NEV brand jointly backed by SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group, and Zhangjiang High-tech, released official images of its first mid-to-large-size range-extended SUV, the IM LS9. The model is expected to feature IM Motor's third-generation steer-by-wire technology and is scheduled to hit the market in the fourth quarter.

Departing sharply from the brand's signature streamlined aesthetic, the IM LS9 embraces a rugged, boxy design language. The front fascia incorporates a full-width LED daytime running light and split-type headlamp setup, while a closed-off grille with a functional lower intake balances tech-savvy styling with cooling performance.

At the rear, the full-width tail light mirrors the design of the front, and chrome accents on the bumper further elevate the vehicle's premium feel.

Under the hood, the IM LS9 combines a 1.5T turbocharged range extender (114 kW) with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The highlight of the powertrain lies in its world-first use of CATL's sodium-lithium hybrid "AB battery." By integrating both sodium-ion and lithium-ion chemistries, the system delivers a battery-powered range exceeding 450 kilometers—substantially outperforming competitors such as the Li L9 (210 km) and AITO M9 (225 km).

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
