Production cuts in replacement capacity; slight MoM decline in China's primary aluminum production in June
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released a report showing that China's primary aluminum (electrolytic aluminum) production in June 2025 was 3.81 million mt, up 3.4% YoY. In June, there was a slight MoM fluctuation in the operating capacity of domestic electrolytic aluminum due to the start of the second phase of electrolytic aluminum replacement projects between Shandong and Yunnan. This time, the original plants were required to cut production in their replacement capacity and pass acceptance inspections before restarting the new plants. As a result, there was a slight MoM decline in electrolytic aluminum production. Entering July, SMM stated that the domestic electrolytic aluminum operating capacity remained fluctuating at highs. The second batch of replacement projects in Yunnan commenced operation, and the industry's operating rate rebounded, while there was no movement in other projects.
