According to foreign media reports: US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said that allowing Nvidia to resume selling H20 chips to China is part of an agreement reached between China and the US on rare earths. The US has incorporated the issue of Nvidia's chip exports into a trade agreement with China on rare earths, which aims to restore China's exports of rare earths to US manufacturers. The H20 is an AI chip that Nvidia specifically designed for the Chinese market at the end of 2023 to cope with export controls, and it was once Nvidia's most powerful product in compliant sales in China. In April this year, the US government banned Nvidia from exporting H20 chips to China on the grounds of national security, citing concerns that they might be used by the Chinese military to advance military modernization. Currently, multiple Chinese companies are rushing to place orders for H20 chips, while Nvidia has established a "whitelist" system for interested Chinese companies to register and submit applications to the US government.
