According to foreign media reports: Apple plans to invest $500 million in MP Materials, the only rare earth mining company in operation in the US. This significant investment will mark a strong endorsement by the US tech giant of the domestic critical mineral supply chain.
Under the terms of the agreement, Apple's collaboration with MP Materials will include the construction of a new recycling facility in Mountain Pass, California. This facility will reprocess materials from discarded electronic products for use in future Apple products. The two parties also plan to build a new factory in Fort Worth, Texas, to produce magnets for Apple products and other electronic devices worldwide. This vertically integrated supply chain layout aims to reduce reliance on overseas suppliers.
