Indonesian Minister Unveils New National Industrialization Strategy at Hiroshima University

Published: Jul 15, 2025 19:07
Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, in a public lecture at Hiroshima University, Japan, presented the country's New National Industrialization Strategy (SBIN), aimed at accelerating industrialization amid global and domestic challenges. He highlighted the government's Asta Cita vision, with six out of eight missions implemented under SBIN. A key focus is the downstreaming of natural resources like nickel, bauxite, and palm oil to boost value addition, job creation, and profit stability. This policy shift has led to the development of industrial hubs like the Morowali Industrial Estate, now a global center for nickel refining and battery components. Similar downstream efforts are expanding to other commodities, as Indonesia positions itself in the value chain of strategic materials such as cobalt, lithium, and rare earth elements essential for the global green energy transition.
