Empresa de Infraestrutura e Obras de Niteroi (ION), a municipal company in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, has initiated a BRL 7.7 million (USD 1.4 million/EUR 1.2 million) solar park project. The project, named Encosta Verde no Morro do Boa Vista, will consist of 2,700 photovoltaic (PV) modules and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to an announcement by the Niteroi government.
The solar plant is projected to generate around 150,000 kWh of clean energy, which will be used to power public buildings and reduce government electricity expenses. Beyond renewable energy production, the project includes additional components such as a rainwater harvesting system, a reforestation program, and measures to prevent landslides and fires.
