Romanian aluminium producer Alro has brought a new electric alloy-aging furnace online following a RON 11.5 million (USD 2.65 million) investment. The installation replaces three gas-fired units in its Processed Aluminium Division and optimises the artificial aging process by delivering more precise temperature control and higher operational efficiency. Capable of accommodating 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx series aluminium plates up to 13 000 mm in length and 2 200 mm in width, the system is expected to boost the output of high-value, top-quality aluminium.
Marin Cilianu, Alro’s Chief Executive Officer, highlighted that switching from natural gas to electric heating not only enhances production accuracy and efficiency but also underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable development. He noted that electric furnaces offer superior process control, reduced environmental impact and stronger alignment with current industry standards—advancements that improve product quality, lower emissions and better position Alro to meet increasingly complex global customer demands.
