[SMM Flash News] State Council: Some Regions Illegally Occupied 45,600 Mu of Basic Grassland for 365 Wind and Solar Power Projects On June 24, the official website of the National Audit Office released the "Audit Work Report on the Implementation of the Central Budget and Other Fiscal Revenues and Expenditures for 2024," which, in terms of the audit of state-owned natural resource assets, covered wind and solar power projects. The report pointed out that the relationship between development and protection had not been handled correctly. For example, since 2009, some regions had illegally approved 45 enterprises to conduct open-pit coal mining in 81 coal mining subsidence area treatment projects, resulting in the formation of 48 giant deep pits covering 27,000 mu. From 2021 to 2024, in key ecological and environmental protection areas, some regions exceeded the quota and added 8.2 million mt of high-energy-consuming and high-emission production capacity in sectors such as coking and calcium carbide, illegally occupied 45,600 mu of basic grassland, and launched 365 wind and solar power projects.
