[Guinea bauxite exports surge to record high]

Published: Jul 8, 2025 17:25
Guinea’s bauxite shipments jumped 36% year-on-year to a record 99.8 Mt in H1 2025—24% of 2024’s global supply—driven by strong Chinese demand despite tighter domestic mining rules. Chinese-backed SMB led exports with 31.2 Mt, followed by Chalco (8.9 Mt), CDM-CHINE (4.1 Mt) and SPIC (1.8 Mt), while GAC, KIMBO and SBG halted shipments under the new regulations. Nine ports handled outbound tonnage—Dapilon/Katougouma and Kokaya accounting for 30% and 25% respectively—easing pressure on Kamsar. At this run-rate, annual exports could top 199 Mt, cementing Guinea’s status as the world’s largest bauxite supplier.
