[US aluminium tariff 2025: Latest updates and partner responses in terms of reciprocal tariff]

Published: Jul 8, 2025 17:23
Over 100 U.S. trade partners face a 10% “reciprocal” aluminium tariff atop existing duties, while a 50% Section 232 levy on all aluminium imports remains fully in force. In 2024, U.S. aluminium imports totaled USD 3.07 billion from China (up 10.74% YoY); USD 505 million from Vietnam (vs. USD 461 million in 2023); USD 2.82 billion from the EU (up 4.96%); USD 11.5 billion from Canada (up 2.67%); and USD 821 million from India (down 10.47%). Imports from Japan—also subject to the 50% tariff—are under negotiation, as other partners such as Mexico, South Korea and Taiwan prepare for continued supply-chain disruption under the elevated duty regime.
