A fire broke out at a lithium battery recycling plant near Madrid, the capital of Spain, on the 4th and had not been extinguished by the 6th. According to reports, the fire injured two people.
According to DPA, the plant is located in an industrial zone about 50 kilometers northeast of Madrid, and firefighters were still struggling to put out the fire on the 6th. Several explosions ignited the fire, and the cause of the explosions remains unclear.
Due to the release of toxic fumes from the fire, the local government sent alerts via mobile phones to approximately 60,000 residents in five surrounding communities, urging them to stay indoors, close their windows and doors, and turn off their air conditioners. Videos posted online showed a large cloud of black smoke rising above the burning building.
A local official said that the smoke turned vertical in the afternoon of the 6th and no longer posed a threat to the surrounding environment, so the alert was lifted. (Xinhua News Agency)
