In early April this year, when introducing the so-called "reciprocal tariff" policy, Trump imposed a 46% tariff on Vietnam, which was later reduced to 10% to allow time for negotiations. On the evening of July 2, Beijing time, Trump announced that a trade agreement had been reached with Vietnam. This was the result of weeks of intense diplomatic consultations between the two countries and was announced at a crucial moment before the deadline next week. If an agreement had not been reached in time, the US had originally planned to impose higher tariffs on Vietnamese imports.
