Positioned as a strategic hub for BYD's international operations, the Brazil passenger vehicle plant is set to play a vital role in catalyzing regional electrification.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On July 1 local time, BYD celebrated the rollout of the first passenger vehicle from its newly built factory in Camaçari, Bahia, Brazil—a key moment in the company's global expansion strategy and a pivotal step toward accelerating the growth of Latin America's new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

Positioned as a strategic hub for BYD's international operations, the Brazil passenger vehicle plant is set to play a vital role in catalyzing regional electrification. During the ceremony, the governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, praised the project, calling it "not only a symbol of industrial development, but also the beginning of a new chapter in Brazil-China cooperation. We are ready to welcome a greener, more innovative Brazil. This factory will spur local economic growth, generate employment, and become a model of technological transformation."

BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li highlighted the company's rapid execution at the event: "As one of the world's top investors in R&D, BYD is bringing its cutting-edge technology to Brazil. It took just 15 months from groundbreaking to the first vehicle off the line. This marks a new milestone for BYD, and a fresh chapter in sustainable transportation for Latin America. We chose Bahia for its passionate people, experienced workforce, and potential to reshape the future."

Located in the Salvador metropolitan area, Camaçari is one of Bahia's industrial and economic hubs, with a mature automotive supply chain and robust port and logistics infrastructure.

In July 2023, BYD announced plans to invest BRL 5.5 billion (approximately RMB 7.1 billion) to build a large-scale manufacturing complex in Camaçari comprising three facilities. The plant will produce both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), with an expected annual capacity of 150,000 units and the potential to create 20,000 jobs. BYD also plans to work closely with local supply chain partners to establish a sustainable, localized NEV ecosystem.

Since launching its new energy passenger vehicles in the Brazilian market in 2021, BYD has earned the trust of more than 130,000 households. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, its sales in Brazil exceeded 20,000 units.

BYD has been aggressively expanding its global footprint in recent years. As of now, its NEVs are present across six continents and in over 110 countries and regions. In the first half of 2025, BYD's overseas sales surpassed 470,000 units, a 132% year-on-year surge. The company projects its overseas sales will exceed 800,000 units for the full year.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
