[Silicon-based anode and fast charging natural graphite anode to be mass-produced in 2027]
POSCO Future M, a Korean chemical materials manufacturer, is developing new anode and cathode materials for EV power batteries.
As the sole anode material producer in Korea, POSCO Future M Co. has been operating a demonstration plant for silicon-based anodes since May last year. The storage capacity of these anodes is five times higher than that of its graphite anodes, and the company plans to commence mass production in 2027.
POSCO has also developed a low-expansion, fast charging natural graphite anode material, improving the material structure from flaky to isotropic to enhance lithium ion movement speed and reduce volume expansion. POSCO plans to commence mass production of this natural graphite anode product from 2027, which is claimed to reduce charging time by 30% compared to existing anode materials.
