On Monday local time, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the US is primarily focused on reciprocal tariffs and will defer addressing the issue of sector-specific tariffs until later. According to market news, this may imply a delay in the outcome of the Section 232 investigation and the implementation of specific measures. The price spread between the most-traded COMEX copper contract and the LME 3M contract exceeded $1,400/mt during the day. Driven by the rise in US copper prices, LME copper prices surged over 1% in the Asian session, approaching $10,000/mt.
