Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD recently held a grand delivery ceremony in Florence, Italy, for its first batch of 25 electric buses now officially in service across the city, according to a press release BYD Commercial Vehicle issued on June 30. The handover marks a significant milestone in BYD's collaboration to accelerate the electrification of local public transportation.

BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li remarked, "Electrifying public transport is a key pathway toward sustainable urban development. This partnership will bring tangible environmental benefits and improved mobility, helping build a cleaner, greener, and more livable urban future."

Andrea Giorgio, Florence's city councilor for transportation, added, "The deployment of these electric buses not only reduces urban pollution but also offers a modern and efficient transit solution. I look forward to seeing more BYD buses becoming a cornerstone of our green fleet."

The 25 delivered buses are BYD K9UD models, each 12 meters long, 2.5 meters wide, and 3.3 meters high, with a three-door configuration and a maximum passenger capacity of 85. They are equipped with manual wheelchair ramps to ensure accessibility for all passengers. Powered by BYD's ultra-safe Blade Battery with a capacity of 422 kWh, the buses offer a range of up to 260 kilometers—ideal for intensive urban transit operations.

The vehicles also come with a suite of advanced intelligent features, including an AVM (Around View Monitoring) system to boost operational efficiency, a comprehensive video surveillance system to ensure passenger and vehicle safety, and a Tip Tap contactless payment system for enhanced convenience.

The first batch of buses will be deployed on routes 6, 20, and 23 within Florence, offering residents a quieter, more comfortable green commuting experience. The remaining 45 BYD electric buses are scheduled for delivery in 2026.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
