Nationwide Special Campaign Launched to Rectify Illegal Dumping and Disposal of Solid Waste

Pei Xiaofei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), introduced on the 25th that with the approval of the State Council, the MEE, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and five other departments have recently jointly launched a nationwide special campaign to rectify illegal dumping and disposal of solid waste. The campaign is expected to take around three years to carry out concentrated rectifications nationwide, curbing the high incidence of illegal transfer, dumping, and disposal of solid waste.

At a press conference held by the MEE on the same day, Pei Xiaofei introduced that the special campaign focuses on illegal dumping and landfilling of hazardous waste, industrial solid waste, and construction waste, as well as illegal dismantling and disposal of scrapped motor vehicles, waste electrical and electronic products, decommissioned new energy equipment, and decommissioned power batteries. The campaign will concentrate on areas where road networks intersect, urban-rural fringes, demolition sites, and administrative boundaries, as well as "three-edge zones" such as mountain edges, water edges, and shorelines, and unmanned and ecologically sensitive areas such as rivers, lakes, wastelands, pits, mine pits, caves, natural protected areas, and forest lands.
