Vietnam's First Major Aluminum Production Project, Dak Nong Smelter, Accelerates Towards 2026 Phase I Operations

Published: Jun 30, 2025 19:22
Recently, Vietnam's first aluminum production project with a total investment of 18.42 trillion yuan, the Dak Nong aluminum smelter, is accelerating production and is expected to commence Phase I operations in Q2 2026.
As a national-level project in Vietnam, the Dak Nong aluminum smelter will fill the last link in the country's "bauxite-alumina-aluminum" industry chain. The project is designed to produce 450,000 mt of aluminum annually. Upon operation, it will purchase the entire output (630,000 mt/year) of the Nhan Co alumina refinery and a portion of the output (270,000 mt/year) of the Nhan Co alumina refinery in Lam Dong Province. The project will also meet Vietnam's current aluminum semis import gap. It is expected to directly create 1,000 high-paying jobs after operation and contribute $900 million to GDP annually.
