Jiang Wei, Deputy Party Secretary, Vice President, and Secretary General of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), stated: "The exports of steel billets in the first four months of 2025 have already surpassed the total for the entire year of 2023, which has, to a certain extent, driven up ore prices. As semi-finished products, the surge in steel billet exports has wasted the country's abundant deep-processing capabilities, consumed non-renewable energy and resources domestically, left behind pollutants and carbon emissions, hindered the upgrading of the steel industry, and intensified low-level market competition. The association has already submitted proposals to relevant national ministries and commissions to restrict steel billet exports.
