【SMM Analysis】Recycling Industry Events This Week (Jun. 16-20): This week's recycling industry events.

This week's recycling industry events.

【30,000-Ton Power Battery Recycling Project Announced

Environmental Impact Assessment Initiated】

Recently, the Ecology and Environment Bureau of Yichang City, Hubei Province, issued the first EIA public notice for a company’s annual 30,000-ton waste power lithium battery recycling project. The facility will feature five intelligent production lines using advanced automation and smart management systems. Upon completion, it aims to recycle 30,000 tons of waste lithium batteries annually, pioneering new pathways for resource utilization.

【Jiangxi LFP Cathode Material Recycling Expansion

Second EIA Phase Launched】

On June 25, a Jiangxi-based materials technology company commenced the second EIA public participation phase for its LFP cathode recycling line expansion and new sodium-ion cathode production project. The company plans to invest 210 million yuan to establish one sodium-ion cathode production line (annual output: 200 tons) and R&D labs. Existing equipment for lithium battery electrode material recycling will be upgraded to increase capacity from 3,000 t/a to 10,000 t/a.

【100,000-Ton LFP Precursor Technical Upgrade

Capacity Optimization Plan】

A Sichuan lithium battery materials company has commissioned an EIA for its 100,000 t/year LFP precursor technical retrofit. The project will consolidate existing sodium/ammonium-method iron phosphate capacities into 100,000 t of ammonium-method production across three phases in two workshops, achieving total capacities of 75,000 t and 25,000 t respectively.

【Battery-Grade Iron Phosphate from Slag Project

New Facility in Jiangxi】

A plastic additives company in Jiujiang plans to invest 100 million yuan to establish a battery-grade iron phosphate production project using phosphorus-iron slag at its existing industrial park site. EIA details were disclosed per regulatory requirements.

【Anhui High-Performance Iron Phosphate Retrofit Approved

Dual-Production Capability Added】

The EIA for an Anhui-based company’s iron phosphate technical upgrade recently entered the approval phase. Key modifications include new pipelines and exhaust treatment systems, enabling its existing 50,000 t/year production line to alternately operate sodium/ammonium methods without capacity expansion.

【Guizhou 450,000 t/year LFP Precursor Project

Multi-Zone Construction Plan】

A 4-billion-yuan project for 450,000 t/year LFP precursors is planned in Guizhou. Zone A (300,000 t capacity, 12 lines) is under current EIA review, while Zone B (150,000 t capacity, 5 lines) will undergo separate assessment.

【Shanxi 100,000 t/year LMFP Cathode Project Phase I Operational

Joint Venture Achievement】

Phase I of an annual 100,000-ton lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) cathode material project in Shanxi, developed through a regional-industrial partnership, has commenced production.

【18,000-Ton Lithium Battery Recycling Project

Two-Phase Development】

A Hegang City waste lithium battery recycling project entered its first EIA public notification phase. With a 120-million-yuan investment, Phase I will process 6,000 t/year of whole batteries, while Phase II will handle 12,000 t/year of electrode scraps.

【MIDR Low-Carbon Recycling Pilot Launched

Innovative Process Testing】

Tianjin authorities have accepted the EIA for a 3-million-yuan retired battery MIDR (low-carbon direct recycling) pilot project. The technology aims to separate cathode materials from end-of-life LFP batteries with higher efficiency and lower emissions than conventional methods.

【68,000-Ton LFP Black Mass Recycling Nears Operation

Closed-Loop Ecosystem Milestone】

A 2-billion-yuan project in Hubei is set to begin operations, enabling annual recycling of ~43,800 tons of LFP black mass and production of 25,000 tons of LFP cathode material. This completes a regional battery lifecycle value chain.

【Suzhou Recycled Black Mass Project Initiated

New Materials R&D Facility】

A Suzhou-based company plans to invest 50 million yuan to establish a recycled black mass production line (3,000 t/year output) and an R&D center for regenerated LFP test cells.

【25,000-Ton Waste LFP Battery Recycling Project

Multi-Output Resource Recovery】

A 220-million-yuan power battery recycling project under EIA review in Fujian will process 25,000 tons of waste LFP materials annually, yielding electrode powders, aluminum, copper, and other recycled components.

【Guangzhou 2025 Battery Recycling Incentives

Funding for Pilot Projects】

Guangzhou’s Industry and Information Technology Bureau unveiled its 2025 funding plan to support demonstration projects for echelon use and recycling of retired power batteries, advancing the city’s circular economy goals.
