On June 27 local time, Russian media reported that the Russian military had taken control of the Shevchenko lithium mine. The Shevchenko lithium mine, one of the largest lithium mines in Europe, was discovered in 1982, with a total ore volume of approximately 14 million mt. The ore body is buried relatively shallowly, at a depth of only 70 to 130 meters. On June 26 local time, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Russian military had taken control of two settlements, Novosergeyevka and Shevchenko, located in the Donetsk region.
